The IBA has recently become a Global Partner of the International Law Students Association (ILSA), the organization that administers the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The Jessup Competition is currently in need of volunteer attorneys to judge national and regional competitions in over 80 countries around the world.
The Jessup Competition is the world’s largest advocacy contest for law students, engaging over 600 schools from more than 80 countries each year. Teams of students research and prepare oral and written arguments on behalf of two fictional countries in a dispute before the International Court of Justice. This year’s Jessup case concerns who may represent a State following a coup d’etat; the legality of, and State responsibility for, a regional organization’s bombing operation; whether the doctrine of sovereign immunity, and a waiver of claims in a peace treaty, precludes a State from rendering judgment on claims submitted by former military internees; and the destruction of a world heritage site
The worldwide schedule of dates, locations, and contact information for each competition is available at:
Please email the relevant competition administrator listed in the schedule if you are interested in volunteering.
Volunteer attorneys are also needed to judge the White & Case International Rounds of the Competition in Washington, D.C., March 25-31, 2012. If you are interested in judging the White & Case International Rounds, please complete the volunteer application form at:
Thank you in advance for volunteering your time and expertise to the many student competitors of the Jessup Competition.
